But what makes The Effect so special, is that as well as being a play of ideas, it is also deeply moving, both in its depiction of the giddy wonder of love, and also in its account of the terrifying wasteland of depression itself The Effect is an astonishingly rich and rewarding play, te intelligent as it is deeply felt.
What of ourselves and our complex psychology do we know, and if we are wrong, how will posterity understand the ways in efffect we understood or misunderstood ourselves?
This funny, moving and perhaps surprisingly human play explores questions of sanity, neurology and the limits of medicine, alongside ideas of fate, loyalty and the inevitability of physical attraction.
This is all just you. There are moments that seem out of prebbble, and a few scenes that could use some dusting, but the overall message of the play packs a punch.

For a play that supports the validity of the heart’s affections, it often seems strangely cerebral; and there is a certain structural neatness about the way Tristan’s instinctive ardour is matched by Lorna’s own longstanding depression.

You ask the questions Yuval Noah Harari: There’s a very good scene at the end involving the two doctors running the trial but although the characters evolved, I never really cared for them. I actually read this 5 years ago when it first came out, but this reread was impelled by the fact I am seeing a local SF production in a week, and wanted a refresher prior to that.
