I absolutely recommend this book to anyone. If you are interested in czech folklore, read this, you’re gonna love it. Even so I enjoyed it just as if Id read it for the first time.

The format is a little difficult to get used to, but Kytice is an astonishing piece of work on behalf of both the author, Karel Erben, and perhaps even more so, the translator, Susan Reynolds. While Twisted Spoon Press is great for bringing Kkarel European literature into English and has published a few noteworthy publications, such as the poetry of Sandor Kanyadi, the Arsonist by Egon Hostovsky and Primeval by Olga Tokarczuk, the more I’ve read their publications the less impressed I’ve been of their output as a whole and have felt an aversion every time I see their books in a bookshop.
I can’t speak Czech, so cannot comment on how accurate the translation is, but it certainly captures the feeling of a true fairy tale. To ask other readers questions about A Bouquetplease sign up. The weak translation didn’t stimulate my brain kutice so I don’t have much to say about the tales either, except that they are interesting for their jarromr so happy endings, at least most of the time.

But it just goes to show that behind the unique and lovely bookmaking that goes into the appearance of a Twisted Spoon book the publishers are content with giving their readers a tepid translation.

Some of these tales just never get old. The format is a little difficult to get used to, but Kytice is an astonishing piece of work on behalf of both the author, Karel Erben, and perhaps even I came across Kytice after reading an interview in which it was recommended by author Helen Oyeyemi, and I am thankful for her for bringing attention to this lovely little book.
Although this is a really old book there are kinda zombies in one of the stories!!! Everyone who loves romanticism should re Kytice is a really interesting book by K.
