I had thought all of his tales where dark gloomy affairs however this short story had none of the supernatural spooky atmosphere, rather a dark and powerful one set down by nature herself.

Observing how objects around him were pulled into it, he deduced that “the larger the bodies, the more rapid their descent” and that spherical-shaped objects were pulled in the fastest. Poe should still be alive writing more stories.
