Kenyatta is the leader of a militant organization which aims at cleaning American ghettos of drugs and prostitution.

While he is incarcerated, Sandra finds herself held hostage in the shared apartment by some characters who not only rob her, but gang rape her as well as beating her. Their relationship was one of a kind. She did her best with the little she had. This particular book talks about the life of a young black girl, Sandra, who lives a poor life with her mother. My heart went out to Sandra from the very beginning as she was often left alone by her drunken mother to fend for herself.


Almost since the day she was born, Sandra had to fend for herself on the streets of Detroit. Like a ghetto Romeo and Juliet, the purity of love is snuffed too soon by hot tempers and the urge for bloody revenge. Donald Goines is who introduce me to a whole new category of books, when I was 12 years old I would go to the library and check out his books, and read them late at night.

It is dark and violent and has multiple triggers. This book was dark in a sense a put some light on certain issues I had no clue about. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. He clearly points to the choices Sandra made and that were made for her that caused her own ruin.

Of course Bahni Turpin one of my favorite narrators brings the words to life and has the listener spellbound with her ability bllack voice many different characters without confusing you. It is sad that this is life for so many, even in this day and age. Read, highlight, and take notes, across web, tablet, and phone. I read this book in one day — and I worked and had an evening activity! The writing is concise so it flows beautifully and fast, but for this kind of story, that’s exactly how it should be.
