Bahá’ís included in ‘Pray and Display’ parking scheme

Bahá’ís who need to park their cars in the London borough of Barnet – when faith business requires it – can now do so under a unique local authority-backed parking scheme.
People of all faiths – including Bahá’ís, Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Muslims and Jains – are eligible to apply for a special parking permit which allows them to leave their vehicles in Barnet residents’ parking bays. The faiths that the Council recognises are based on its diversity monitoring categories, adopted in April this year. Humanists, Rastafarians and Unitarians are also among the recognized organizations.
“The importance of religion to many Barnet residents
cannot be underestimated,” the Leader of Barnet Council, Mike Freer, told the BBC News website, “and the Council has acknowledged this with a policy that will assist spiritual leaders when engaging with people in times of illness or crisis.”
